Discover Montessori Society Parent Group – Family Ball and Silent Auction

This year, we are busy preparing our farm school property on Jingle Pot Road in Nanaimo. The farm school will provide a unique and exciting learning environment for Discover Montessori students with lots of time spent outdoors tending the extensive garden and caring for farm animals and fish, in addition to the usual primary, elementary and middle school classroom topics.

2014 and 2017 saw our upper elementary students take part in MMUN conferences in China. The children’s involvement in these events was a monumental learning experience for both those traveling to China as well as students learning alongside them in the classroom, before and after each trip.  The success of the China trips has inspired our school community to participate in future MMUN conferences in other parts of the world.

Funds raised from the silent auction will benefit both the preparation of the farm school, as well as future MMUN conference participation.

The Family Ball is a unique gala event in Nanaimo, providing a wonderful occasion for the whole family to dress up, enjoy a meal together, dance in an elegant ballroom, and bid on a wide range of silent auction items. The Family Ball also offers an amazing opportunity for young children to practice grace and courtesy in a formal setting, with the support of teachers, family and friends. Last year’s event raised $10,000, and we are so pleased it has become a grand affair the community enthusiastically awaits each year.
