A-Cappella Plus – How Can We Keep From Singing? Song of the Folk
18 / November / 2018 @ 2:00 pm - 4:30 pm EST
A Cappella Plus has been performing in Nanaimo and central Vancouver Island for over 35 years.
A Cappella Plus started as a group of eight people singing madrigals and has evolved into a larger ensemble that performs a wide variety of repertoire, from the sacred to the secular, early to modern, classical to jazz, and rock & roll to pop. The Plus in A Cappella Plus refers to the occasional addition of accompaniment when the music calls for it.
Performance highlights through the years have included participation in the Kathaumixw International Choral Festival, the opening and 10th anniversary of the Port Theatre, singing for the arrival of the Olympic Torch and performing on board “The World” residential luxury liner when it dropped anchor in Nanaimo Harbour. A Cappella Plus has been honoured to perform with the Vancouver Island Symphony, Vancouver Welshmen’s Choir, The Vancouver Men’s Chorus, Larry Nickel’s Jubilate! Choir, The Tidesmen Chorus and the Nanaimo Chamber Orchestra. This is a choir that enjoys collaborating with other groups and accepts invitations to share their love of music whenever they can.
We are very pleased to have Patricia Plumley as our music director, and under her direction A Cappella Plus is committed to further develop its unique personality as they learn and grow through musical projects that stretch them. They strive to be known for providing great entertainment and doing exciting things. At all times, they are motivated to “celebrate the joy of song.”
A Cappella Plus rehearses on Thursday evenings at Wellington Secondary School. If you would like to audition to join this fun group please contact Patricia Plumley at plumleymusic@shaw.ca
