Job Title: Sales Coordinator
Rate of Pay: $28.88 / hour
Benefits: As per Collective Agreement

Hours: 40 hrs / week *

* Effective with the start date, the weekly hours will range from 24 hours to 30 hours due to a current
temporary layoff of a reduction of hours in this position.

Title: Sales Coordinator
Under Direction of: General Manager

Summary:
Reporting to the General Manager, or their designate, the Sales Coordinator will be responsible
for developing new business related to conferences, conventions, group and multi-day events to
meet or exceed budgeted sales revenues.
The Sales Coordinator will be responsible to promote and solicit Regional, Provincial, National
and International business as well as responsible for accomplishing assigned sales activities.

Qualifications:
• Minimum three (3) years’ sales experience in the hospitality or tourism industries with convention
sales preferred
• Experience in selling to the association market
• Post-secondary college degree or diploma in a related or relevant field an asset
• Excellent oral/written communication, interpersonal and organizational skills
• Strong customer service skills
• Works harmoniously and effectively with others as part of a team
• Sales and up-selling skills required
• Ability to produce quality and timely results in a fast-paced environment
• EBMS software knowledge an asset
• A thorough knowledge of Microsoft Office
• Exercises confidentiality and discretion
• Experience in working at a multi-use facility

Position Requirements:
• Ability to achieve sales goals
• Excellent selling skills and proven ability to target, solicit and penetrate new accounts
• Ability to maximize revenue from existing accounts
• Ability to develop and implement effective sales plans and initiatives
• Excellent research skills and capabilities to find new business

• Ability to interact with external clients and customers, internal service providers, all levels
of management of the Vancouver Island Conference Centre and all other related
stakeholders with the utmost professionalism

• Ability to assist in the development of a business plan and ongoing sales strategies

Sales Call & Activities Requirements:
• Accounts will be prospected on and developed by consistent face to face, telephone and
email contact as well as through social and internet communication
• Conduct outside sales calls and telephone solicitation
• Establish goals to build relationships and aggressively target the conference,
convention, meetings and events business sectors (M.I.C.E. tourism sector)
• Participate in industry market related networking and promotional activities
• Coordinate with industry stakeholders and prepare detailed proposals for potential
clients and their events
• Coordinate and conduct facility tours and site inspections for potential clients
• Coordinate and conduct Familiarity Tours (FAM Tours) involving industry
stakeholders for potential clients and their events
• Have access to a vehicle for transportation purposes to facilitate sales visits
• Willing and able to travel to and attend trade shows as planned in annual budget and
sales strategies

Other Related Activities Requirements:
• Prepare for and attend weekly and other regular Team and Sales & Events meetings
• Prepare and submit weekly and monthly sales reports to the General Manager in a
timely fashion
• Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted
during work – staff, contractors and facility users
• Work effectively in a service-oriented environment subject to frequently changing
priorities
• Cover Reception desk duties for lunches and absences if required
• Regular workday shall consist of eight (8) hours consecutively between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.

Monday to Friday with a lunch period of thirty (30) unpaid minutes. Changes to the regular
workday can be made upon agreement between the Employer and the Union *
• Regular work week may be changed due to travel and attendance at trade shows
• Perform other duties as assigned by the General Manager or their designate

Compensation:
• $28.88 per hour plus current benefit package
* Effective with the start date, the daily hours will range from 5 hours to 6 hours due to a current
temporary layoff of a reduction of hours in this position.
